Iordan is one of the most experienced capital markets lawyers in Bulgaria. Before co-founding Stoeva Tchompalov & Znepolski, Iordan was a partner at DTT (Dimitrov Tchompalov & Todorova) for 15 years and continues to cooperate with that firm in specific matters as a senior counsel. His securities law practice started in 1996 as a lawyer at the Bulgarian Securities Commission, made the head of the regulations drafting department, and finally served as commissioner before joining in late 2000 as a consultant the USAID Capital Markets Regulation Project, aimed to support the development of the Bulgarian securities market.
Iordan’s practice draws on his experience developed over more than 27 years to allow him to advise on complex issues and structures. He particularly enjoys dealing with innovative transactions where there is a complex regulatory and/or corporate background or where a new solution is being applied either to a new or an old problem.
Throughout his career as an attorney, Iordan has regularly advised a diverse range of clients including listed companies and debt issuers, banks, investment firms and asset managers, both internationally and locally on matters including without limitation: public and private offerings and listings, bank facilities, licensing, the conduct of business, market abuse/disclosure of price-sensitive information; securities transactions and settlement issues; capital adequacy; investment funds; directors duties, related party transactions and conflicts of interest; general meetings of shareholders; judicial review of regulatory action. Apart from that, he also has a special interest and experience in other financing agreements, and corporate, commercial, and administrative law matters.
Driven by the impact GDPR has caused on various businesses and the IDD on the insurance industry, data protection and insurance distribution has recently become another emphasis of Iordan's advisory practice.
Iordan has earned top-tier rankings in Legal 500 for his capital markets and banking work.
Iordan holds an LL.M from the University of Sofia, Faculty of Law (1991). After that, he accomplished a one-year financial management postgraduate course at the University for National and World Economy, Sofia (1994), and a six months finance and investments program at the University of Wisconsin, USA (1999).
He is admitted to Sofia Bar and to practice in Bulgaria.
In addition to mother-tongue Bulgarian, Iordan speaks English and has a general understanding of Russian.
